Trekking
Near both houses there´s principally three treks you can do. For each one you could walk directly from each house, but we prefer going to a starting point with a car and then walking from there. There's principally 3 treks we do: the vulture viewpoint, the waterfall and the 36o° view. Here are some photos and drone footage we've made of these trips. We have each one of them saved on the App Organicmaps and cand send them to you in case you'd like to do them.
Some Tips
Of all treks the shortest one is the vulture viewpoint, it takes around 1 hour going to the viewpoint and back. The view is stunning, it's a nice, short walk, definitely worth doing. In case you want to go higher and actually push your body for a bit more, you can go on this steep trek that rewards you with a 360° view of the whole valley. This one takes around 2 hours. And in case you prefer more of a jungle, not that high of a view with a waterfall at the end as a reward, I would recommend going to the third and longest hike, it takes around 4-5 hours.
Near the starting point of both the vulture and the 360° trek you will pass a cacao-farm where you can stop and learn a bit about the cacao tree and the processing of the seed in order to make chocolate, for example. The farms belong to Mr. Luis and you can buy some cacao if you'd like and make chocolate from scratch at home! The way to the waterfall hike is in the opposite direction towards a municipality called Cuatro Ezquinas. There you can park near the river and walk up a trail that leads to the crest of the mountain and you get a full view of the Magdalena river on the other side. The ending point of the hike is stopping by a waterfall, taking a dip if you wish and turning around.
Please make sure to be well prepared before each trek. Take water, some snacks, put on long pants, suitable shoes, take a hat, take sunblock or repellent, and try going on these hikes early in the morning or right after midday, you don't want to catch midday sun during the walk. And make sure to have fun!
